Counting a till in the eurozone
Euro coins run from 1 cent to €2 and all of them are still legal tender — but not every country rounds the same way. Germany, France and several others don't round at all, while the Netherlands, Finland, Belgium, Ireland and Italy round cash totals to the nearest 5 cents because the 1c and 2c coins barely circulate there.
That difference decides whether a few cents of variance is normal. In a rounding country it is; in Germany or France it's a counting error worth finding.
The €500 note stopped being printed in 2019 but is still legal tender, and plenty of shops won't take one. If it turns up in your count, set it aside and check it before you bank it.
