Counting a till in France
France doesn't round cash payments: the 1 and 2 cent coins are still in circulation, and the drawer has to balance to the cent.
When a few cents are missing, it's nearly always the 1c, 2c and 5c coins — they roll into the wrong compartment or slip under the tray.
The €500 note hasn't been printed since 2019 but is still legal tender, and plenty of shops won't accept one. If you find one in the till, set it aside and check it before you bank it.
